It’s owned by a lovely older lady who hasn’t driven it much since her husband passed away, but says despite its outward appearance, it actually runs and drives very well. It’s an ‘82, has the 5.7, needs some sort of rely for the heater, an alternator, and one of the tires is flat. She isn’t sure what she wants to do with it yet, but said she’ll keep my number and if she decides to let it go she thinks I could have it. The only others interested have been scrappers, and she likes the car a lot and wants it to go to someone who'll take care of it. So maybe at some point I'll get another call, and become the second owner of a 1982 Buick Lesabre. Cool.

Well handled. You made a kind, tasteful introduction and offer. If it has a chance of working out, it might be great for all involved. Hard to ask for much more than that. Good luck!

Sounds like a potential sweetheart. Buick B bodies look great when cleaned up.

Watch that 5.7 though. The only 5.7 offered after 79 or 80 was the Olds Diesel.

Not bad at all. I’d rock a second owner, (likely) low miles 1982 Buick LeSabre.

You can “bulletproof” a 5.7 diesel pretty easily. good head bolts/studs, gaskets, and a worthwhile water trap in the fuel feed are all you need. Plus it’s an IDI engine so bio or even SVO can go in it no problem. The fuel-lubricated Stanadyne injection pump would love the extra lubrication.

Oh yikes, hopefully she meant 307 instead of 350.....it didn't have a diesel badge on the back, so I don't think it has the olds. She said it made good power for towing a camper, which doesn't sound much like an olds diesel haha

Maybe she meant 305? My dad had one of those in his old Caprice coupe and it was a good motor.

I think the Buicks only got the 252 V6 or the Pontiac 307 if Wikipedia is correct. I don't know anything about the 307, but I imagine it would be similar to the Chevy 305

You can also convert Olds diesels back to gas burners with a different set of heads. This was a popular mod for a long time, because the 350 diesel blocks are stronger. Burning gas, you can safely bore/stroke these to something like 425 cubic inches.

Ah, I forgot that’s when GM still had different engines among its product lines.

Yeah, I’d be all over that car no matter what engine it has.

I know they weren’t as bad as their rep. With a little work.

I’d be a bit afraid of one that’s been sitting inop for a long time though.

I’d probably bet on it being a 307 or it could have been a 350 swap. Gas swaps were a big business back in the day.
